My Country
My Country, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, has said, through John Reid the Home Secretary, that it may ‘opt out’ of European human rights legislation – so it can ‘detain’ people without trial or even arrest.
My Country has more CCTVs per head of population than any other in the world. My Country has just introduced mobile CCTVs to keep an extra eye on motorists who might use lanes designated for buses when those lanes are empty. My Country is issuing the already universally disliked Traffic Wardens with hats with built in cameras -to enable them to film my fellow countrymen littering, etc, and use the footage in prosecutions against them.
My Country is going to turn my ‘wheelie bin’ into a stool pigeon to inform the authorities if I don’t recycle my trash properly (by properly it means, bottles, garden waste, kitchen waste and newspapers in the right receptacles and only the right receptacles) – and if I don’t I will be penalised.
My Country is beginning to use the ’newspek’ of the Totalitarian States of the past – for instance, it’s introducing a scheme to make children happier at school, however the term happiness seems to have stuck in its throat, children in future will be made ‘emotionally resilient.’ However, some state schools in my Country have banned such age old games as ‘tag’ along with all other games which involve physical contact, because this is “inappropriate behaviour.” My Country’s most modern, most expensive state ‘super school’ will have no playground at all! Because we are told what the public want is “maximum learning.”
In my Country two years after the freedom of Information act was passed, MPs have decided it doesn’t apply to them.
My Country is the UK today. But, where is my father’s Country ? Where is the Country he and his brothers and the rest of their generation fought with such sacrifice to keep free?
If anyone has any information about the Civil War service of Light Company A, Second U.S. Artillery, please contact me via this site. I am particularly interested in individual members of the battery - officers, non-commissioned officers or privates.
SPECIAL NOTICE: Over the next few weeks I will be migrating all the existing information about Battery A from this site to one decated to the subject. See Battery A 2nd US Artillery link in Blogroll below.
In my country we are no longer allowed to call christmas, christmas… it is a celebratory period. A Blackboard is no longer allowed to be called blackboard, yet somehow, whiteboard is ok? Parents are no longer allowed to take pictures of their children taking part in school sportsdays, unless they ask every single other parent first. It’s all wrong
